Top Tips for Reducing Marine Transport Costs

Tim Graham

As an events planner, staying ahead of the competition should be your objective, and that can only be achieved if you source the best events equipment. From chairs and tables to tents and décor, sourcing locally might seem like a good idea until you see what sea suppliers have to offer. Most sea merchants have the best to offer in the events planning industry, and you will not regret it if you decide to import some products for your business. That said, while marine transport is among the cheapest modes of transportation, you can use some strategies to bring the harbour costs down.

Use Third-Party Logistic (3PL) Companies for Deliveries

When goods arrive at the harbour, you might decide to keep them in a warehouse as you wait for the event day to arrive. However, storing your event products in a warehouse will involve additional storage fees. Moreover, anything can happen during storage; for instance, you cannot rule out damage to stored materials. For this reason, you should opt for a 3PL partner rather than house your products in a warehouse. 3PL partners can pick up your products from the harbour and take them straight to the venue. This eliminates the need for a warehouse, thereby saving you a lot in terms of costs. Additionally, you can decide to wait until the last minute to make your purchases, and this allows you enough time to haggle for the best prices possible with your supplier.

Time the Arrival of Goods at the Harbor

Just like any other form of movement, marine transport follows a schedule. Therefore, your goods can arrive during the day or at night, depending on where you source the event products. Timing is, therefore, essential when buying materials overseas because depending on the arrival, you can pay a toll fee or avoid it. For example, if your goods arrive in the morning, and you want to clear them, you will have to pay a toll fee before leaving the harbour, consequently adding to your costs. On the other hand, if your goods arrive at night, you may avoid paying the fee as long as you clear and leave the harbour before daybreak.

Consolidating your Purchases

It might seem like a good idea to source your items from different suppliers in different regions, especially if the various sellers offer competitive prices. However, the question you should be asking yourself is at what cost. While buying from multiple suppliers in one country might cost you a bit more, it is advantageous because you get to consolidate all your cargo into a single shipment. This goes a long way in lowering the overall cost of shipping your event equipment.

About Me
Hiring Contractors For Home Improvements

Hello! My name is Richard and this is my new blog. On this blog, I hope to pass on some useful information about how to work with contractors. I recently decided that I wanted to give my property a complete overhaul. I wanted to have a new roof installed, the interior remodelled and the driveway repaired. I asked around and I put together a great team of contractors who could all work together to get the job done. However, that isn't to say there wasn't the occasion challenge during such a big project. I learnt a lot from the experience and I am really pleased with the work that the contractors carried out.
